Thanks to all who gave me consideration. Regardless of the results, this was a great life experience. Thanks to Patti Smith for a fun day and congrats to her on her victory.
I would like to formally announce my political retirement even though it never really started. I am definately not cut out for this stuff.
Congrats to Ralph and Karen, I wish the board well and hope they do a great job for SoPo.
peace... Kendall Fassett

Never mind
South Portland Board of Education at Large
100% OF PRECINCTS REPORTING
> Karen Callaghan 6,826 36%
Ralph Baxter, Jr. 5,894 31%
Jay Allen 3,388 18%
Kendall Fassett 3,116 16%
These results really shock me, not just because we did'nt win, but that Jay allen came before us. That's not right. Do you plan to run again, or for anything else in the future?

I do not plan to run for anything. I really despise everything about politics except having an opportunity to interract with the community. I ran because I have been blessed with the skills and experience to serve the community well in this capacity.
In the same way that I could not sit and watch the woman struggle yesterday with her flat tire, the redistricting pain evident by numberous families caused me to step forward. I ran a very different and ill-advised campaign. I am sure that political experts would advise against how I did it. The way I did it represented my values and who I am and I could never support typical campaign strategy. I stand on street corners instead of plastering the road with signs. I say what I am specifically for instead of what I am against. I change flat tires and jump start cars instead of staying at the doors to shake a few more hands.
I believe that change has to happen locally, not globally for it to be real. And the reality is that I can be a more effective change agent by just being a good friend and neighbor. It is the life on life relationships that lead to change, not campaign bandwagons. I am for changing my own heart not legislating change in others. I believe that this is how America will truly change. Votes and parties and administrations will simply put groudrules in place that we must live with. They will not create the authentic, self-less change that we need.
Thanks for being a great kid, Ben. And thanks to your family for the ways they have supported me. You are a very dear family.
